Mount Holland mining and concentrator operations are located approximately 500 kilometres east of Perth and 105 kilometres south of Southern Cross in Western Australia.

Through the Mount Holland mine and concentrator and the Kwinana refinery, Covalent will be producing battery quality lithium hydroxide in Western Australia for use worldwide in lithium batteries.

Covalent is backed by one of the biggest lithium producers in the world, SQM, in partnership with a respected Australian company, Wesfarmers Limited.

The objective is to produce approximately 45,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide per year once the plant has been completed.

NRW’s subsidiary, Primero’s relationship commenced with Covalent in 2018 as an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contractor providing project feasibility for the client.

Contract  

NRW Civil in partnership with Primero is undertaking the Bulk Earthworks component of the project.

The scope of work includes:

  • Removal of existing material cut to spoil approximately 350,000 cubic metres;
  • Borrow from surrounding borrow pits of approximately 500,000 cubic metres of material; and
  • Drainage and services trenching works.

This project award marks the ongoing packages of work that NRW has been awarded on green projects as well a new client.
