PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The NRW & Eastern Guruma Joint Venture was contracted to undertake the bulk earthworks at Rio Tinto’s Nammuldi Below Water Table Bulk Earthworks project.

The project scope included:

Nammuldi Earthworks & Stockyard Rail
Consisted of earthworks for the processing plant, waste fine storage facility, mine service facilities, stockyard, an explosives compound, heavy vehicle haul roads, light vehicle roads, and a rail link with a train loading facility.

The scope of works included:

  • 7 kilometres of Heavy Haul Roads
  • 12 kilometres of Light Vehicle Roads
  • Over 3,000,000 cubic metres of excavation
  • Over 690,000 cubic metres of drill and blasting
  • Over 7,000 lineal metres of culverts
  • Installation of stacker beams including 1,850 cubic metres of concrete and installation of 4.5 kilometres of rail

Heavy Mobile Equipment Overpass
Consisted of the civil, structural and electrical works for the design and construction of a 3 Lane Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) Overpass. The overpass accommodates loaded 730E and 930E Dump trucks.

The scope of works included:

  • Ground investigations and design development for civil, structural and electrical works
  • Construction of corrugated steel arches over twin rail and two light vehicle roads, including structural foundations, earthworks and drainage
  • Electrical installations for overpass tunnel and street lighting
  • Traffic management and live rail interface management.

Silvergrass Road Stage 1
Construction of 11.2 kilometres of sealed light vehicle roads and 7 kilometres of Heavy Mobile Equipment haul road. Works included cement stabilised base course, double seal coat, drainage, guardrails and signage.

The project duration was 109 weeks and at its peak had over 490 personnel mobilised to site.
