NRW WINS RIO TINTO WEST ANGELAS ACCESS ROAD

The contract for Rio Tinto’s West Angelas Access Road Project is for the upgrade of the existing road between Great Northern Highway and West Angelas mine in the Pilbara, Western Australia.The project scope includes:

  • 19,000 cubic metres of excavation
  • 266,000 cubic metres of embankment construction
  • 5,300 lineal metres of culverts
  • 31 kilometres of bitumen sealed pavement including the installation of 2 floodways

The West Angelas Road Project is expected to run for 29 weeks commencing in January 2013 and at its peak, there will be up to 120 workers required.

The framework agreement was signed in mid-2011 and projects covered are a part of the major expansion of Rio Tinto’s operations in the Pilbara to a capacity of 333 Mt/a. Other contracts undertaken by NRW to date as part of the framework agreement include works at Cape Lambert and Boolgeeda Airport.
